미국 애리조나주에서 처음으로 생긴 대학이며,  아이비대학과 견줄만한  퍼블릭 아이비 리그의 주립대학교 중 하나입니다.

애리조나대는 미국대학중에서 20위권에 드는 연구중심대학이며, 미국대학연합(Association of American Universities )소속 미국 60개 대학중의 하나입니다.

애리조나대는 애리조나주의 예 주도인 미국 32위 도시인 투산(Tucson) 다운타운 중심에 위치하여 산학협력과 고용증대를 통하여 투산시의 경제발전에 크게 기여하고 있는 대학입니다.

애리조나대 학생은 73%가 애리조나주출신이고 10%가 캘리포니아주출신이며 나머지는 일리노이주,텍사스주,워싱턴주,뉴욕주출신으로 구성되는 전국적인 학생이 입학하는 주립 대학이며, 외국에서도 122개국의 유학생이 공부하는 세계적인 대학입니다.

애리조나대에서 세계적으로 알아주는 전공분야는 천문우주학,광학,지질학, 수자원학,문화인류학,사회학 경영분야에서 창업과 경영정보시스템MIS,IT분야에서는 세계적으로 유명한 대학입니다.

특히 경영학박사과정은 미국 탑3주립대학으로 많은 박사를 배출하여 미국 각대학의 교수로서 많은 연구실적을 보이고 있는 대학입니다.

또한 인공심장을 만들고 암센터를 건립하는 등 의학분야와 약학분야에서  연구성과가 뒤어난 대학입니다.

최근 20년 동안 첨단 하이테크 산업이 집중 육성되어 1200개 업체에 5만명이 넘는 고용이 창출되었고, IBM을 비롯한 굴지의 기업과 기술자들이 애리조나대가 있는 투산으로 모여들고 있습니다. 그만큼 투산은 하이테크산업지역으로 매력을 끌고 있습니다.  

애리조나대는 중국상해교통대의 세계대학랭킹에서는 3년계속 세계 탑100위에 드는 대학이며  더타임즈나 상해교통대의 미국대학순위에서도  Top50에 드는 아카데믹이 우수하고 리서치가 매우 강한  대학입니다.

특히 애리조나대는 소렌스탐,오초아등 골프여제를 배출하였으며 와일드캐츠라는 대학농구가 유명하며 여자수영에서는 다수의 올림픽 금메달을 따는 스포츠로서도 매우 유명한 대학입니다.

#20 among full-time U.S. programs, and #6 in entrepreneurship.

The University of Arizona (UA or U of A) is a land-grant and space-grant public institution

of higher education and research located in Tucson, Arizona, United States.

The University of Arizona was the first university in the state of Arizona, founded in 1885,

when Arizona was still a territory and is considered a Public Ivy.

UA includes Arizona's on-ly allopathic medical school. In 2006, total enrollment was 36,805 students

UA is a member of the Association of American Universities, and the sole representative from Arizona to this group.

UA students have been selected as Flinn, Truman, Rhodes, Goldwater, Fulbright, and National Merit scholars. UA is a member of the Association of American Universities

Shanghai Jiao Tong University named The University of Arizona among the world's top 100 universities, and in the top 50 North American universities in its 2003, '04, '05 and '06 rankings.

Golf Hall of Famer Annika Sörenstam attended Arizona from 1990-1992, and another current LPGA superstar,

 Lorena Ochoa, attended from 2000-2002. Softball star Jennie Finch and

Olympic swimmers Amanda Beard, Ryk Neethling and Amy Van Dyken were also student athletes.

success in scientific and humanistic research and achievement in both military

 "Best Buy." As defined by Fiske, Best Buys are schools that "offer outstanding academics
